    Curriculum

The program incorporates components of the High Scope curriculum approach to teaching and learning. Research-based and child-focused, the High Scope Curriculum uses a carefully designed process - called "active participatory learning" - to achieve powerful, positive outcomes. Children are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, develop social skills and explore their world through hands-on learning and play, allowing children to grow at their own pace.

    Active Learning Approach

Teachers provide learning experiences allowing opportunities for children to be actively involved with people, materials, events, and ideas. In these experiences, children "learn by doing," often working with hands-on materials and carrying out projects of their own choosing.

    Small & Large Group Experiences

Teachers plan experiences based on children's developmental level and interests. Small group experiences provide hands-on activities to introduce or expand on children's knowledge, skills or interests. Large group experiences are opportunities for the entire group to participate in a group game or team-building activity to promote a sense of belonging and community.

    Learning Group

Based on children's interests and teacher expertise, children participate in a 6-week club designed to build on their knowledge and extend their learning. Teachers help children determine roles and jobs needed to complete the project. Children have opportunities to learn and explore specific skills and interests in depth.

    Homework

The program provides dedicated time and space for children to work independently or in small groups to complete their homework. Staff develop relationships with school staff to provide a cooperative home and school connection.

    • Staff are available to answer questions, provide assistance, and support learning.
    • Staff will encourage children to do their homework but are not responsible for the completion and review of each child’s work.
    • Extensive tutoring cannot be provided.
