On June 24, 2020, Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) transitioned to a new centralized Enrollment Center to streamline the enrollment process for families. This transition includes a new online enrollment system. Currently enrolled families will receive an email with instructions on how to set up their new online account on June 24. Please read on for more information about enrollment.
Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) has a centralized Enrollment Center located at 1840 Benton Street in Santa Clara. The Enrollment Center can be reached Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at (408) 423-3596 or email@example.com. Please note, walk-ins are not taken at this time, please contact us to make an appointment.
Students who currently live within the Santa Clara Unified School District residency boundaries are eligible to attend our schools as defined by SCUSD Board Policy 5111.1, Administrative Regulation 5111.1, California law in Gov Code 244, and Ed Code 48200. For more information about the enrollment process, please visit our Enrollment Instructions webpage.
To view the new school district boundaries that will be implemented for the 2021-2022 school year and the 2022-2023 school year visit our Boundaries webpage.
All students currently enrolled in preschool through 12th grade and in our post-secondary program must complete the annual student information update process online through our online enrollment system. Visit the Annual Student Information Update webpage for instructions.
Kindergarten registration for the coming school year begins on January 8, 2020. Children must be five years old on or before September 1, 2020, to be eligible. Kindergarten registration is ongoing for new students entering the District any time after the initial enrollment period. If your child is currently enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten (TK), you must still register for Kindergarten (read the TK section below for more information).
The potential for new kindergarten enrollment in some of the District’s elementary schools may exceed the school’s capacity so parents are encouraged to register their incoming kindergarten student as early as possible. Students are placed based on their registration date. Questions regarding Kindergarten enrollment may be directed to the Enrollment Center.
For more information about required forms and the registration process, please visit our Enrollment Instructions webpage.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year begins on January 8, 2020. Parents of students who turn 5 years old between September 2 and December 2, 2020, may choose to register for TK. Currently, our TK students attend school daily on a modified schedule at one of six District locations. Registration in the TK program is optional. Open Enrollment does not apply to Transitional Kindergarten students, as the SCUSD Open Enrollment policy applies to K-12 students only. Visit the TK webpage for more information.
Current Transitional Kindergarten Students
We hope you and your child have found this transitional experience in school to be a positive one. Your child has been given the opportunity to learn important social, emotional, and academic skills in a hands-on way this year and they are now ready to enroll in our regular kindergarten program.
Current TK students must re-register by completing a New Student Registration Packet through our online enrollment system. Your current enrollment in our TK program does not provide you with priority registration. Please do not miss the opportunity to enroll your child in kindergarten which began on January 8, 2020. Remember, all completed kindergarten registration packets are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Transition to Middle School
Families of 5th grade students will be mailed a middle school transition letter. All incoming middle school students will receive a letter in the Spring of 2020, from the school of residence, confirming your student’s placement. All students transitioning into 6th grade must provide Proof of Residence when completing their child’s Annual Student Information Update through our online enrollment system.
The Santa Clara Unified Board of Trustees has established a policy of limited Open Enrollment. Although some of our schools are already at capacity, this policy allows parents who reside within the boundaries of the district to request enrollment of their children at "any District school which may have space available for additional students." Admittance to the school of your choice under the Open Enrollment process is done by an annual random lottery system and is based on availability.
Open Enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year is closed. Open Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in January 2021.
Visit the Open Enrollment webpage to find out more about the process.
