County Teacher of the Year

September 2022

On September 15, The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) announced that our very own Claudia Lopez is one of the 2022 County Teachers of the Year.

“Westwood Elementary is beyond thrilled to see that Claudia Lopez has been chosen as one of the county's educators of the year,” said Principal Cori Ghaffari proudly. “We cannot think of another person more deserving of this honor. Claudia embodies the ideals of “student first” and “all-inclusive” in her work as a special education teacher during her career at SCUSD. She is a role model, a collaborator, and an amazing teacher. SCUSD and Westwood are lucky to have such an amazing educator in our midst!”

Lopez was also named Certificated Employee of the Year at the SCUSD Employee Recognition Celebration in May this year. Claudia is considered by her colleagues to be a caring, cheerful, competent, and compassionate person. She always looks to the best in others and brings out the potential in every student. She cares deeply about her staff, the students, and the teachers she supports. Claudia is a forever learner who is constantly improving her own knowledge base and bringing that to her work with students.

Lopez and other exemplary educators will be honored for their achievements at the 52nd annual Santa Clara County Teacher Recognition Celebration on October 24, 2022, at 6 p.m. at the Campbell Heritage Theatre in Campbell.

“It is important to acknowledge teachers' roles in our society – they inspire future professionals and leaders,” said County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. “We are thrilled to honor the stars of education who have made a great impact in their school communities.”

The Santa Clara County Teacher Recognition Celebration hosted annually by the SCCOE  is one of the oldest and largest events of its kind in California.
